Boromir (Sean Bean) - Sean was already a well-known actor by the time he was invited to star in The Lord of the Rings. But his performance in the fantasy blockbuster only made him more famous, and he went on to play notable roles in Troy, Silent Hill, and, of course, Game of Thrones. Incidentally, he also holds a PhD in English literature from the University of Sheffield.

Bilbo Baggins (Ian Holm) - Ian Holm appeared in his first movie in 1958. He’s taken on more than 110 roles, including the android Ash in Alien, Napoleon in Time Bandits, Father Vito Cornelius in The Fifth Element, and, of course, Bilbo Baggins. The actor has also been knighted.

Arwen (Liv Tyler) - Before taking on her most famous role, Liv Tyler starred in several successful movies, including Stealing Beauty and Armageddon. The actress now has three children and took on her first job as a movie producer in 2016.

Gandalf (Ian McKellen) - Ian McKellen first starred in movies in the 1970s, but he became particularly well known in the 1990s. His most famous roles were as Nicholas II in the movie Rasputin and as Magneto in the movie adaptations of the X-Men comic books. In 1989 he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.

Merrie (Dominic Monaghan) - Few people know that Dominic was involved in writing the script for The Lord of the Rings alongside fellow actor Billy Boyd. He’s also well known for playing Charlie in the TV show Lost.

Éowyn (Miranda Otto) - The actress has appeared in movies that, by and large, haven’t had wide screenings. In 2014, she starred in I, Frankenstein.

Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood) - Apart from continuing to act in movies and providing voice acting for animated films, Elijah has founded the sound-recording company Simian Records. One of his most well-known appearances after The Lord of the Rings was in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind as the character Patrick.

Pippin (Billy Boyd) - Billy is known for his ability to sing and play the guitar, bass, and drums. He wrote and performed the song “The Edge of Night“ in The Return of the King. He’s also the leader of the music collective ”Beecake." He is good friends with Dominic Monaghan and is a sponsor of the Scottish Youth Theatre and the National Youth Choir of Scotland.

Théoden (Bernard Hill) - Bernard Hill is most famous for playing the captain of the Titanic in the eponymous film in addition to his superb performance as Théoden in The Lord of the Rings. Interestingly, his role in these two films makes him the only actor in the world to have starred in more than one movie that earned 11 Oscars.

Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) - Cate has starred in more than 40 movies during her career, as well as 20 theatre productions, earning herself a star on Hollywood Boulevard. In 2009, stamps appeared in Australia depicting four of the country’s Oscar-winning actors, and Cate was among them.

Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) - Apart from his acting work, this actor with Danish ancestry is also a famous artist, photographer, poet, and musician. He founded a publishing company which publishes the works of little-known authors. He has also been awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of the Dannebrog.

Samwise Gamgee (Sean Astin) - Although he has continued to star in movies, his role as the clumsy yet brave hobbit Samwise Gamgee remains Sean’s most well-known performance. In 2004, he and Joseph Layden jointly wrote the book There And Back Again: An Actor’s Tale, in which he discussed his impressions of filming The Lord of the Rings.

Elrond (Hugo Weaving) - Apart from playing the Elven king Elrond, Hugo Weaving starred as the insidious Agent Smith in the Matrix trilogy and as V in V For Vendetta.

Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) - John Rhys-Davies’s career is full of interesting roles — including a part in Spongebob Square Pants. He’s best known for starring in the TV show Sliders, the Indiana Jones movies, and the fantasy drama The Lost World.

Legolas (Orlando Bloom) - When he took on the role of Legolas the Elf, Orlando Bloom was still a largely unknown actor. A few years later, he starred in another highly successful movie, Pirates of the Caribbean, which will soon delight us with a new installment.

Gollum (Andy Serkis) - Andy has played the primate Caesar in the movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes, King Kong in the movie of the same name, and also numerous computer game characters.
